Tuesdays with Morrie - Play Reading (july 23, 2022)

Reading of the play by:

·      John Leslie, a former choir director for ECA, played the role of Morrie

·      His cousin, Andrew Hall played the role of Mitch Album

·      Gwen Hacker, a member of ECA, was the Narrator, Interviewer, and Janine, Mitch’s wife

This book and play are based on a true story of the relationship between Mitch Albom and his sociology professor at Brandeis University, Morrie Schwartz. Many years after graduation, Mitch re-encounters Morrie, who was at that time, diagnosed and dying of ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Over the course of the play, we are able to sit in on the numerous visits on Tuesdays and witness how Morrie faces his own death. It is amazing to watch the transformation firsthand and listen in to what he teaches his past student about life, giving out love and letting it come in.

Anyone listening to the actors in this presentation didn’t need any assistance of sets and memorization of lines to be moved emotionally by the struggles that are present in lives moving toward death and those being witness to it. This wonderful performance was enjoyed by 50 friends and family in the audience.

We are always delighted when John Leslie visits us from his current home in Massachusetts, as he always brings us some creative offering from the theater or musical arts. We look forward to the next thought-provoking surprise.
